Ophthalmologist
Dr Dony Mathew completed his medical degree (MBChB) with distinctions at Stellenbosch University in 2012, where he was recognised as the top achiever in Ophthalmology within his graduating class.
He continued his training in Kimberley under the mentorship of experienced ophthalmologists, where he obtained his Diploma, as well as his Primaries (passed cum laude) and Intermediates in Ophthalmology. During this time, he was involved in community outreach initiatives, including performing cataract surgery.
Dr Dony went on to complete his specialist training at Stellenbosch University, alongside a Master of Medicine (MMed), which he passed cum laude. His research, published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology, formed one of the largest studies of its kind at the time.
Following this, he completed a mini-fellowship in corneal transplant surgery at the Agarwal Eye Institute in Chennai under the guidance of Dr Soosan Jacob.
He focuses on both the prevention and management of eye conditions and remains committed to staying up to date with developments in ophthalmology through regular attendance at national and international congresses.
Outside of the clinic and theatre, he values maintaining a balanced lifestyle and enjoys staying active, with a strong focus on physical fitness.
